Kingston, NY (Jan. 16, 2010) 3:03 P.M. - The American Red Cross is continuing its relief operation in response to Tuesday’s earthquake in Haiti. Ulster County residents have answered the need with $3,129 collected at the Chapter’s Kingston office. This figure does not include the contributions of county residents to the Text “Haiti” to 90999 campaign or gifts given to RedCross.org.
The Chapter’s offices remained open and staffed with volunteers on Saturday to process funds from donors who walk through the doors and call to make their contributions. John-Anthony Bruno the Chapter’s Executive Director stated: “The outpouring of support for the American Red Cross’ relief efforts for this week’s disaster has been outstanding”. Nationally the American Red Cross has raised over $60 million for the relief. Bruno added: “We are preparing for a long term commitment to the people of Haiti and certainly our fundraising efforts will need to continue for a lengthy period of time”. Currently the Chapter is working with organizations like schools, community groups and churches to continue the momentum and bring the fundraising efforts to a grassroots level. Individuals who wish to contribute to the effort are urged to call the chapter at 845-338-7020 or visit www.ulsterredcross.org
