Red Cross offers Disaster Training in Partnership with SUNY New Paltz

Kingston, NY (February 11, 2010) 12:03 P.M. – The American Red Cross will offer, through a partnership with the Institute for Disaster Mental Health at SUNY New Paltz, a day-long disaster training program on Saturday, February 20th

The Ulster County Chapter will provide instructors and course materials for American Red Cross courses titled; “Fulfilling our Mission”, “Mass Care” and “Shelter Operations”.  These courses will serve as an introduction to the Red Cross.  They will train students on the roles and responsibilities of Mass Care workers, and how to effectively operate mass shelters in small to large scale disasters.  After completion of these courses, a registered Red Cross volunteer may be deployed to small and large disasters locally and nationally to assist in recovery efforts.

The courses will run from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.  Registration is free of charge and can be completed by calling the Ulster County Chapter at 845-338-7020.

About the American Red Cross of Ulster County

The American Red Cross helps people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies. Last year, nearly 300 residents of the Ulster County were provided free, emergency assistance by the Chapter after disasters such as fires, floods, and power outages.  On an annual basis the Ulster  County Chapter also provides disaster preparedness, first aid, CPR and childcare training to thousands of residents.

The Red Cross is not a government agency; it relies on donations of time, money and blood from the American people to do its work. An average of 92 cents of every dollar the Red Cross spends is invested in humanitarian services and programs.
